Unlocking Access to IV Iron: Accelerating Progress on Maternal Anemia

Session Information

Iron deficiency anemia affects more than one-third of pregnant women across sub-Saharan Africa, and while oral iron remains the most widely used treatment, it often falls short for moderate to severe cases, leaving women without the rapid, effective care they need. Intravenous iron - specifically ferric carboxymaltose (FCM)- offers a proven, faster solution to correct severe anemia in pregnancy, but access remains limited.

Join CHAI for a dynamic session bringing together Ministries of Health, global partners, and technical experts to explore how countries can move from evidence to action. CHAI will present findings from a Gates Foundation-funded 15-country landscaping study revealing cross-country trends, market shaping opportunities, and government pathways to FCM introduction. Panelists will then discuss real world opportunities, including the UNITAID-funded SUPREME project.

Attendees will leave equipped with concrete insights and connections to advance equitable access to life-saving maternal anemia care.
