Impact of the ‘Caring for Providers to Improve Patient Experience’ (CPIPE) Intervention on person-centered maternal health care: Evidence from Kenya and Ghana

Late Breaker Research Abstract to Share Fair 02:30 PM - 03:45 PM (Africa/Nairobi) 2026/03/25 11:30:00 UTC - 2026/03/25 12:45:00 UTC
The Caring for Providers to Improve Patient Experience (CPIPE) intervention is an integrated, multi level intervention targeting provider burnout and bias as intermediate factors to improve Person centered maternal health care and address inequities in care. The CPIPE trial is a two arm, cluster randomized controlled trial conducted in 40 high volume delivery facilities (20 intervention sites and 20 control sites) in Kenya and Ghana, aiming to assess the effect of CPIPE on women’s experience of care (primary aim), providers’ experience (secondary aim), and maternal health seeking behavior (exploratory aim). This abstract focuses on the primary aim, with the primary outcome being the intrapartum experience of care, measured using the Person Centered Maternity Care (PCMC) scale. Secondary outcomes include Person Centered Antenatal Care (PCANC) and Person Centered Postnatal Care (PCPNC). Preliminary analysis suggests CPIPE can improve Person centered maternal health care, offering a model to enhance quality of maternal healthcare.

Optimising the First 1000 Days through Integrated Postnatal Care for Mothers and Infants in Tshwane, South Africa: Insights and Implementation Steps to Move Policy into Practice

Knowledge Cafe to Share Fair 02:30 PM - 03:45 PM (Africa/Nairobi) 2026/03/25 11:30:00 UTC - 2026/03/25 12:45:00 UTC
Integrated postnatal care (IPNC), encompassing HIV services, contraception, and well baby care—has the potential to improve outcomes for mother–infant pairs (MIPs), support breastfeeding and planned conception, enhance maternal health in future pregnancies, and reduce the burden and cost of care. Although policy frameworks define the essential components of IPNC (“What”), the operational mechanisms for delivering integrated services (“How”) remain inadequately defined, particularly in resource constrained settings. This session draws on findings from the Sihamba Kunye implementation science study (2024–2026), which investigates the delivery of integrated, patient centred care in public sector primary healthcare facilities in South Africa. Through clinical decision support tools, structured maternal interviews, and time and motion studies, the study provides practical insights into service integration, workload optimisation, and process redesign. Key lessons and scalable, cost effective strategies will be shared, offering guidance for policymakers and implementers aiming to advance maternal and child health in low and middle
