This WHO led session is intended to (a) introduce and disseminate the recently developed WHO framework for newborn screening , diagnosis and management of birth defects in LMICS – this framework presents frontrunner LMIC country experiences in implementing programs for one/ more birth defects, discusses the choice of an initial one (or more) birth defects to focus on in country, the preparation of health systems, financial support for these programs at scale and planning rehabilitation services for children with birth defects.. (b) unpack the framework through discussion of b1. various LMIC experiences of implementing national/ sub national programs for newborn screening and management of birth defects b2. how these LMICs financed these programs sustainably b3. How LMICs have operationalized rehabilitation services for children with birth defects (c) Explore in a workshop what are priority areas for support in the next two years.
